The What
We intend on creating a back-to-school training seminar for teachers in order to be better equipped to serve a variety of student needs in classrooms. Over the span of a week, teachers will be given the opportunity to step away from the classroom in order to build their skill sets and increase their background knowledge to serve a variety of classroom needs; including low income, special education and students with physical disabilities. The team will source specialists from different fields to speak on such topics and how teachers can help those students succeed.
One of the benefits this program provides is the scalability as if we prove to be successful, this event could be held every 1-3 years. We could potentially expand to include a seminar targeted at welcoming new teachers into the classroom. Future seminars could include opportunities for teachers to share experiences they’ve had with their students and any recommendations they have for other teachers who share similar stories. This is an opportunity to share resources and advice district wide. All of this is intended to give teachers strategies and tools that can be implemented directly in their classrooms. This program will especially help marginalized students as they will have greater access to resources and administrators and teachers will benefit greatly as they will become more knowledgeable about student needs.
We are committed to working with partners across multiple sectors to achieve our goal of better preparing Arizona teachers as they will face a diverse population of students and will need the tools and training to be better equipped to manage their classrooms. Cross-sector collaboration will allow us to utilize the positive benefits provided by each sector. We intend on working with organizations that play an important role within education, specifically organizations that have collaborated with other sectors in the past.
