Who are we?

Hunter Allen, Lindsay Delmont, Taylor O’Connor and Ibukun Oluyi are seniors in Cohort 3 of Arizona State University’s cross-sector leadership program The Next Generation Service Corps. All four of us saw the value in education, teachers and their teaching ability. We saw many holes between the teachers’ ability to succeed and what resources were provided for them, specifically in Arizona.

What Brings Us together?

Teachers are the backbone for student success. Without their aid, young people could never reach their full potential. We came together in support of teacher success and professional development, which ended up being a collaborative effort to create School'd:  a Teacher’s Seminar.

What are the Goals?

The overall goal for our group is to create a back-to-school training seminar that would overall enhance Arizona teachers’ ability to run a classroom and connect with students.

In order to accomplish the seminar’s overarching goal, the focus will need to begin on the collaborative efforts of each organization involved and meet their needs while meeting our own.

By creating an environment of small sub-teams focusing on different aspects of teaching ability and professional development, we will be able to heighten the collaborative efforts, allow participating companies to perform their strengths, and have a successful seminar overall.

How will it work?

The seminar will begin as an annual event before the school year in which teachers from different Arizona school districts may come together to take classes, learn about available resources and receive extra training like second language communication, resume building, and different teaching techniques.

There will be some form of teacher appreciation at the end of the seminar. This pool of knowledge the seminar creates will heightened awareness of how to help students succeed as well as curate their own professional development outside the classroom.
